Dear Bloys Members,
It seems that Campmeeting is just around the corner again and we are all looking forward to it. We had a good meeting at our annual June meeting on June 10. We were able to confirm that Rev. Jim Stephen will return as interim Superintendent. The Pummels and John Hutchison will again be our music team .(What a blessing that is!) The ministers for this year will be Bishop Bill Hutchison – Methodist; Rev.Tommy Porter of Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth – Disciples of Christ; Jim Dennison, Park City Baptist Church, Dallas, - Baptist; the morning Bible study will be led by Dr. Gary Hilton of First Presbyterian Church, Midland.
Jonathan Mast, of Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo, will lead the Nabertacle high school and college group, with Lamar Stockton and Becky Middleton leading the music. New sponsors for the Nabertacle in 2007 are David and Sharon Medley and Danny and Marsha Neal.
Chapel in the Rocks will be led by Matt Overstreet of Plano and James Wood of Austin. Janet Helm, our Youth Director, reports that the younger age groups will be led by Tina and Joe Langest, Lashawn McIvor, Amy White, Ann Driver, Lana Hickok, and Lynn Pawelka. If you would like to help with the youth program, please contact Janet Helm in the Means and Evans Camp.
I would like to remind everyone that Saturday (August 4, 2007) before Campmeeting starts on Tuesday (August 7, 2007) is the first night for campers to stay at Bloys for cleaning and minor repairs. New construction and major repairs must be completed, cleaned up and those involved off the campgrounds by midnight, Thursday (August 2, 2007), before Campmeeting starts on Tuesday.
We are again requesting that everyone register with the Caretakers upon arrival. If one person registers for several, we would like to have everyone’s address included because we are going to use the registration list to put out our newsletter. In conjunction with that, if you got a newsletter. and some of your family members that were registered, in name only, did not, we have no address for them. So please share. We also have the newsletter posted on the website “Bloys Campmeeting.com”.
There are a couple of things that I need to share with you as members. We continue to build and grow, which is great; but with that growth, come concerns. These are not new problems, but ongoing growing pains and, of course, ongoing operational requirements. Because of this continual growth, we are again facing a need to increase our water storage and our electrical capacity and there again, we have to consider the funding. Our treasurer's report at June Meeting revealed that our expenses, at that time, had exceeded our donations by about $8,000. One example of increased expenses is trash disposal. Because it is currently illegal for us to have a dump, we now have to use dumpsters, which last year cost us $1,500 per day.
Please don't misunderstand. This is not a "gloom and doom" letter but, rather, an attempt to keep you informed as to where the problems are. We do have some reserves, and from time to time have draw from them in order to meet our obligations. These reserves are not a tremendous amount of money and will soon be depleted if we continue to draw from them for reasons other than emergencies. We have just such a situation right now, in that we have an electrical transformer that is overloaded and we need to replace it and add another in order to split the load.
Please be thinking and praying about how you, as members of the Bloys Campmeeting Association, can help. In the past, we have always risen to the occasion and met the challenges that faced us, and I am confident that, in the name of Jesus, we will again.
Bloys will begin Tuesday, August 7, 2007, and we are looking forward to seeing you and your family, visiting with you and most of all, worshiping the Lord with you.
Sincerely,
Oscar L. Medley
